Bulgaria to tax plastic bags

Bulgaria is set to introduce a tax on plastic carrier bags, an official from the country's environment ministry told EE&PL. This follows an increasing amount of moves in this direction - notably Italy's recent call for a ban. Theodora Zenova, the head of the household waste department, said the Bulgarian government has decided to introduce the tax in a bid to motivate citizens to reduce their use of plastic bags and start using other types of packaging.
