EUROPEN moots revoke of packaging directive

One way to solve the problem of overlap between the packaging and packaging waste Directive (PPWD) and revised waste framework Directive (WFD) would be to get rid of the current PPWD altogether, European Organisation of Packaging and the Environment (EUROPEN)'s managing director Julian Carroll challenged this month's European Packaging Waste Forum. "Can the Commission solve this problem of having twin aims [internal market and environment] of the PPWD and single environmental aims of the WFD by revoking the current packaging and packaging waste directive, rolling the environmental aims in the waste framework directive?" Carroll argued at the Brussels meeting.
