The European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee have rejected an attempt by seven MEPs to block the benchmarking rules for the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) after 2013, a move welcomed by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The seven MEPs had presented two motions for resolutions objecting to a draft benchmarking decision that allowed certain types of industrial installations to receive carbon allowances for free for a limited period (see EE&PL: February 23, 2011,p25).
