Members of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy have backed the agreement recently reached by the European Commission, Council and parliamentary representatives on the energy efficiency directive (EED), but said it could have been more ambitious. The vote on the agreement, which took place on 12 July, was welcomed by the Parliament's rapporteur Luxembourg Green MEP Claude Turmes. He warned however that a reform of the EU's Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) was urgently needed as otherwise energy saving and energy transition measures would remain "a dead letter.
