Poland follows France in banning Monsanto GM maize

The commercialisation of genetically modified (GM) crops in Europe is set to suffer a further setback with the banning of Monsanto maize in Poland. Monsanto's MON 810 GM maize is expected to be banned following street protests in Poland over alleged links between the crop and the decline of honey bee populations. Marek Sawicki, Poland's agriculture minister, said: "The decree is in the works. It introduces a complete ban on the MON 810 strain of maize in Poland."
