EU member states are guilty of financing "toxic" municipal waste projects in developing countries that would be illegal in the EU, according to an investigation of 300 projects in 50 countries by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (Gaia). Gaia and a number of Green MEPs slammed the projects for violating key EU rules on waste disposal and "actually increasing" greenhouse gas emissions and pollution while "undermining" incentives for recycling and composting.
