ECHA report warns about phthalates risk from sex toys

The presence of two phthalate softeners in sex toys could pose a risk of liver toxicity, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is warning in a draft report issued for consultation this week. The report reviewed the scientific evidence on the risks posed by articles containing the phthalates di-isononyl (DINP) and diisodecyl (DIDP), as well as the EU's current ban on phthalates in toys and childcare articles which can be placed in the mouth by children.
