Swedish scientist Christina Ruden is to join the Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) as one of two European Parliament representatives. Ruden will replace Hartmut Nassauer who resigned earlier this year following a unanimous vote by coordinators - political group representatives - of Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety last week. Although the coordinators can only decide to nominate a candidate and then tell the Committee chair to inform Parliament's President of this recommendation, the move is a formality and it is this nomination that counts.
