Instead of returning to the World Trade Organisation for dispute resolution, Brazilian trade officials and orange industry leaders are negotiating directly with their US counterparts to overcome import restrictions and pursue a permanent solution to the carbendazim fungicide dispute. "Nobody benefits when Brazilian juice can no longer enter the United States. This is very much a technical and legal issue. The United States isn't motivated by market protectionism because Brazilian juice is a necessary ingredient in the production chain there, and no other nation is in a position to supply this type of juice in similar quantities," Celio Porto, Brazil's minister of international relations, said in a joint ministerial policv statement this month.
