WWF slams EIB's support for fossil fuels

Green group the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has slammed "the world's largest public financial institution," the European Investment Bank (EIB), for its decision to support fossil fuels despite the EU climate goals. With WWF supporting a 100 per cent renewable energy scenario, it was appalled to read the EIB's "disappointing" draft energy lending policy published on 24 June. According to WWF, nothing in the draft "supports a 2℃ climate change limit in Europe by 2050." The green group was also unhappy that the EIB "requires improved standards on hydro-power, which is frequently controversial because of its impact on nature.
