MEPs call for stricter GHG monitoring and reporting

The way greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are monitored and reported on should be more strictly controlled, MEPs agreed last week in adopting the report by Dutch Green MEP Bas Eickhout, with 634 votes in favour, 42 against and five abstentions. The original European Commission proposal is aimed at replacing the monitoring mechanism agreed in 2004. While most of the measures remain the same, there were some new requirements on reporting and monitoring, which Eickhout strengthened.
