The REACH chemicals regulation is working effectively to manage risks from dangerous substances and no major overhaul is needed, although some adjustments are necessary, according to the European Commission in publishing the first five-year review last week, broadly welcomed by industry but not by green groups (see separate articles this issue). "The use of chemicals in Europe has become considerably safer since the REACH regulation entered into force," said a Commission statement flagging up the main findings of the report published on 5 February.
