EEB finds REACH review 'too little, too late'

The review of the REACH chemicals regulation published last week has received a critical reception from green umbrella grouping, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB). In a 5 February statement, the EEB said that five outstanding problems were expected to be examined under the REACH review in line with the regulation: Experience acquired with operation of the regulation; requirements relating to registration of low-tonnage substances; the need, if any, to register certain types of polymers; whether or not the scope of REACH should be amended to avoid overlaps with other relevant Union provisions; and, to carry out a review of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
