Tajani resigns as Industry Commissioner to become MEP

EU Industry Commissioner and Commission Vice President Antonio Tajani resigned on 1 July to take up his post as an MEP joining the European Parliament's largest political group, the Christian Democrat European People's Party (EPP). Tajani, who is Italian, was not alone as three other commissioners, two of them also Commission vice presidents, resigned the same day after being elected MEPs. They are former Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Commissioner Luxembourg's Viviane Reding, who also joins the EPP and was a vice president; Finland's Olli Rehn, who was Vice President responsible for economic and monetary affairs and the Euro and joins the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe; then former Financial Programming and Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski from Poland, another new EPP member.
