It is illegal to discharge this sort of effluent into local water sources and the surrounding environment - as a society, we are becoming more and more acute to the increasing environmental problem we all now face. The EA and other local authorities have implemented lots of legislation on manufacturers, food and beverage plants and other industrial businesses to prevent polluting trade effluent from entering into the environment, which now include several critical elements that companies must comply with to ensure they are taking necessary steps to protect their local environment. Businesses are now often charged for their volume of trade effluent and are required to have a consent license, in agreement with their local water utility company. Understanding your trade effluent and having accurate and reliable data to share on trade effluent, is vital for utility companies to understand how to treat the effluent before releasing it back into the environment, as well as allowing the manufacturing, industrial, chemical or food processing plant to manage the potential risks it poses to its staff and the environment.
