I thought Dr William Kirk gave a brilliant speech about bumblebees at the Chesterfield Pollination Conference a year or so ago, he is the author of the great book 'Plants for Bees' after all and some sort of insect ecologist expert at Keele University. Me and Susanne from the magazine were at the conference to gain ideas about our Pollinator Project (see page 40 or previous editions) and of course the buzz is that bees of all kinds are valuable but having a hard time. I get press releases and information often about people from campaigns dressing up as honeybees and talking about the plight of the bees, and it always seems to be honeybees and ideas spring to my mind about summer sunny days running around in the flowers - but here's a fact from the conference -bumblebees actually like the cold!
