Planned logging in the Ochoco National Forest in Central Oregon was remanded Dec. 11 by a federal appeals court, so that the U.S. Forest Service could amend its analysis to reflect the cumulative effects of past timber sales (League of Wilderness Defenders v. Forest Service, 9th Cir., No. 06-00982, 12/11/08).rnThe U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit reversed and remanded a decision by Magistrate Judge Paul J. Papak, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, which ruled in favor of the Forest Service (League of Wilderness Defenders v. Forest Service, No. CV-04-982 (D. Ore. 2008)).rnThe Ochoco National Forest is near Prineville in Central Oregon. Along with the Deschutes National Forest and the Crooked River National Grasslands, these three federal tracts include approximately 2.5 million acres.
