The Environmental Protection Agency announced Dec. 10 it will not finalize a rule that would have eased requirements for power plants to install new emissions controls when modifying their facilities and another that would have allowed new coal-fired power plants to be built near national parks.rnBoth rules were criticized by environmental groups as substantially weakening pollution controls at power plants and allowing more emissions from the facilities. John Walke, clean air programs director at the Natural Resources Defense Council, called EPA's decision to abandon the new source review and national parks rules "very welcome."
