摘要

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is committed to providing public access to environmental information. This commitment is integral to our mission to protect human health and the environment. One of our goals is that all parts of society -including communities, individuals, businesses, State and local governments, Tribal governments - have access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks. To fulfill this and other important goals, EPA must rely upon information of appropriate quality for each decision we make.rnDeveloped in response to guidelines issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)1 under Section 515(a) of the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554; H.R. 5658), the Guidelines for Ensuring and Maximizing the Quality, Objectivity, Utility, and Integrity of Information Disseminated by the Environmental Protection Agency (the Guidelines) contain EPA's policy and procedural guidance for ensuring and maximizing the quality of information we disseminate. The Guidelines also outline administrative mechanisms for EPA pre-dissemination review of information products and describe some new mechanisms to enable affected persons to seek and obtain corrections from EPA regarding disseminated information that they believe does not comply with EPA or OMB guidelines. Beyond policies andrnprocedures these Guidelines also incorporate the following performance goals:rn1. Disseminated information should adhere to a basic standard of quality, including objectivity, utility, and integrity.rn1.1 The principles of information quality should be integrated into each step of EPA's development of information, including creation, collection, maintenace, and dissemination.
