The Department of Energy and a consortium of utilities and other groups announced Sept. 1 they have signed a cooperative agreement needed to advance the development of the FutureGen project, a prototype low-emissions power plant to be constructed in Illinois that will employ carbon capture and storage.rnThe $17.3 million shared-cost limited scope cooperative agreement between the agency and the FutureGen Industry Alliance covers preliminary design activities through the end of 2009 and includes continued work between the two groups on electric grid interconnect studies, securing environmental permits, and defining alliance operational activities.
