Government Sues BP, Transocean, Others Over Guff Spill, Seeks 'Unlimited' Damages

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Dec. 15 against BP Plc and other companies for violations of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and the Clean Wa ter Act in the Deepwater Horizon spill that released 4.9 million barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico between April 20 and July 15 (United States v. BP Exploration and Production Inc., E.D. La., No. 2:10-cv-4536, 12/15/10).rnThe lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, where it will join hun dreds of other consolidated lawsuits (In re Oil Spill by the Oil Rig "Deepwater Horizon" in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, E.D.
