A federal judge Dec. 2 denied a motion by Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox and others for a preliminary injunction to close Chicago-area locks to prevent the establishment of an Asian carp population in Lake Michigan (Michigan v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, N.D. 111., No. 10-cv-4457, 12/2/10).rnCox and his counterparts in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania sought to have the locks permanently closed, and to force the federal government tornspeed up its efforts to prevent the carp from entering the Great Lakes (41 ER 1655, 7/23/10).
