State Officials Decry Federal Agency's Work On Environmental Analysis for Mining Rule

The work performed to date on an environmental impact statement to support a rule to protect streams from mining pollution is disjointed, un-helpful, and often "nonsensical," according to a Nov. 23 letter signed by state officials.rnTop officials in eight state agencies that oversee min-ing signed the letter to Joseph Pizarchik, director of the Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation, and Enforce-ment in the Department of the Interior.
