Emissions From State's Power Plants Fell During Past Decade, Report Says

Power plants in New York state significantly reduced their emissions of three key pollutants over a 10-year period ending in 2009, according to a Sept. 20 report from the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO).rnThe report said sulfur dioxide emissions from power plants declined by 82 percent from 1999 to 2009, while nitrogen oxide emissions declined by 62 percent, and carbon dioxide emissions declined by 31 percent.rnEmissions by New York power plants were among the lowest in the country, as measured by the amount of emissions per megawatt hours of electricity output, the report said.
