摘要

There is no basis for a temporary or permanent ban on offshore oil and natural gas operations in Canada, but any future offshore drilling must be carefully regulated and controlled, particularly in Arctic waters, according to a report released Aug. 18 by a Canadian Senate committee.rnThe Senate Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee's review of Canada's regulatory system for offshore drilling, done in the wake of the spill from BP's Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, responded to public concerns about whether the current regulatory system is sufficient to minimize the risk of a similar disaster in Canadian waters, said the committee chairman, Sen. David Angus.
