Syngenta Crop Protection Inc. said the presence of the herbicide atrazine in drinking water supplies poses no threat to human health, but the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) said research shows the pesticide disrupts hormones, impairs the immune system, and contributes to birth defects.rnA Syngenta spokesman presented the company's view on atrazine to an Environmental Protection Agency advisory committee April 29, while the NRDC released May 4 an updated version of a 2009 report that said recent scientific studies providing new information on the herbicide's risks support phasing out use of atrazine.
