San francisco-The California Public Utilities Commission adopted requirements Dec. 1 for utilities to purchase certain amounts of renewable energy to meet a 2020 goal to generate one-third of the state's electricity from solar, wind, geothermal, and other renewable sources. The commission adopted renewable portfolio standard (RPS) requirements for all retail sellers in 2011-2013, 2014-2016, and 2017-2020 rather than setting annual targets.
