摘要

Studies by the U.S. Geological Survey have found that oil from the Exxon Valdez spill is fresh and lingering along shorelines, contrary to assumptions made in 1989. Gail Irvine of the U.S. Geological Survey's Alaska Science Center said oil has remained in locations as far away as shorelines of Katmai National Park, about 300 miles from the tanker grounding site in Prince William Sound. Irvine, who along with study partners has focused studies on oil lingering outside of the spill area, presented findings at the Southwest Alaska Park Science Symposium, held Nov. 2-4 in Anchorage. The conference was sponsored by the National Park Service and other organizations.
