Army Aims to Reach 'Net Zero' Energy Goals Through Efficiency Measures, Renewables

The U.S. Army is using more energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy in both military installations and operations to reach a goal of "net zero" energy use by 2030, an Army official said Nov. 1. "The Army can make a difference if we look at how we run our installations," Richard Kidd, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for energy and sustainability, told BNA at the 2011 GreenGov Symposium. The Army selected 17 military installations in April for a pilot program to achieve net zero waste, energy, and water use.
