EPA Extends 2008 Construction-Related Stormwater Discharge Permits to 2012

The Environmental Protection Agency extended the expiration date for 2008 general permits for storm-water discharges associated with construction activity until Feb. 15, 2012, in a notice scheduled for publication July 8. The three-year National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System construction general permits issued in 2008 expired June 30. The change covers permits issued in EPA Regions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. EPA said it is extending the expiration date to provide sufficient time to complete a new permit, which will for the first time incorporate new effluent limitations guidelines and new source performance standards that EPA issued in December 2009.
