EPA Officials Order Tire Recycler to Remove Waste Tires at Facility to Curb Fire Risk

LOS ANGELES—Federal officials June 2 ordered a tire recycling firm in the town of Mecca to remove excess waste tires and take other steps to reduce the risk of a fire at the facility. Consolidated Tire Recyclers Inc., which operates on tribal land in the small farming town in the Coachella Valley, faces fines of up to $7,500 a day if it fails to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency order.
