摘要

Two senators introduced a bill May 26 that would allow states to opt out of a federal mandate to use gasoline containing ethanol and would encourage development of alternate biofuels. The Fuel Feedstock Freedom Act (S. 1085) would amend Section 211 of the Clean Air Act, which regulates fuels and additives, to allow states to opt out of a requirement to use gasoline blended with corn ethanol. Under the bill, states would be required to pass legislation opting out of the program. The Environmental Protection Agency then would be required to lower the national renewable fuel requirement for corn ethanol by a percentage equal to that state's share of national gasoline consumption.
