Commission Releases Draft Proposal To Establish Interim Waste Storage Sites

A commission formed to address the problems of managing and storing radioactive waste in the United States released a draft recommendation May 13 to set up one or more interim storage facilities to store spent reactor fuel while a permanent storage plan is developed.The draft recommendation was among several discussed at a meeting of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future, although it is uncertain whether it will be included in the commission's interim report, which will be released by the end of July.
