摘要

Duke Energy and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) will test experimental technologies developed by the Energy Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), under a pair of memoranda of understanding announced April 14. Among the technologies that will be tested and deployed are those related to the smart grid, grid-scale energy storage, power electronics, and energy-efficient cooling, according to the Energy Department. "ARPA-E technologies have the potential to lower utility customers' energy costs and strengthen the reliability of the electric grid," Energy Secretary Steven Chu said in a statement. "This partnership with the utility industry will move promising technologies from the lab into the marketplace at a much faster pace." One of the first candidates to be tested likely will be technology related to compressed-air storage, ARPA-E Director Arun Majumdar said during a conference call April 14.
