Missoula, Mont.-Federal regulators have recommended licensure for a proposed $3.3 billion uranium enrichment plant near Idaho Falls, Idaho, concluding that the facility would not pose significant risks to the environment or cause other serious problems. In a final environmental impact statement (FEIS) issued on Feb. 14, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission found that construction and operation of the Eagle Rock Uranium Enrichment Plant by French company Areva Enrichment Services would create "generally small" or temporary impacts on water, air, soil, wildlife, vegetation, or cultural resources.
