Alaska—A federal judge on Jan. 24 dismissed a lawsuit filed by Alaska alleging that the Obama administration had improperly delayed offshore drilling in Arctic waters in reaction to the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico (Alaska v. Salazar, D. Alaska, 3:10-cv-205, 1/24/11). The lawsuit, filed Sept. 9, 2010, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, had accused the Department of the Interior and its Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement of imposing an unofficial drilling moratorium in Arctic waters in conjunction with an official moratorium on new deep-water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico (41 ER 2090, 9/17/10).
