BP Ordered to Pay Alaska for Revenue Lost Due to Prudhoe Bay Shutdown

An arbitration panel has ordered BP to pay $245 million to compensate for lost royalties and interest resulting from the 2006 Prudhoe Bay transit pipeline spills and related production shutdowns, Alaska officials announced Nov. 8 (State v. BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc., Alaska Super. Ct., No. 3AN-09-6181, 10/31/12). BP will pay another $10 million in civil environmental penalties for the natural resource damages caused by the two oil spills, the state announced.
