Two German Companies to Pay $1.2 Million To Settle Oily Bilge Waste Dumping Charges

Two German shipping companies admitted concealing the illegal dumping of oily bilge wastewater at sea from U.S. Coast Guard inspectors and have agreed to pay a $1.2 million penalty for criminal violation of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (United States v. Nimmrich Und Prahm, S.D. Tex., No. 4:12-cr-5409, plea agreement 11/2/12). Defendants Nimmrich & Prahm Bereederung GmbH & Co. and Nimmrich & Prahm Reederei, the operator and owners of the cargo vessel M/V Susan K, pleaded guilty Nov. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The Justice Department announced the plea agreement Nov. 5.
