Environmental Agency Issues Guidance On Air Permit Decisions for Oil, Gas Drilling

Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection has issued technical guidance that it will use in making air quality permitting decisions for oil and gas operations. The final technical guidance, published Oct. 6 in the Pennsylvania Bulletin, will help regulators determine when to issue separate permits for individual sources of emissions and when to aggregate separate sources and treat them as a single source for permitting purposes. The guidance, which applies to permits for sources of emissions from oil and gas exploration, extraction, and production, provides that properties are contiguous or adjacent if they are within a quarter mile of each other.
