The U.S. government has pledged $2 billion to international efforts aimed at supporting sustainable development and clean energy projects, the State Department said June 21. The United States will provide grants, loans, and loan guarantees to Sustainable Energy for All, an initiative launched by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in September. The goals of the initiative are to ensure universal energy access, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030.
