A federal district court entered a $72 million judgment against Volvo Powertrain Corp. on April 13 for violation of an air pollution consent decree approved by the court in 1999 (United States v. Volvo Powertrain Corp., D.D.C., No. 98-2547, 4/13/12). The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia held that engines manufactured for a "corporate sibling" of Volvo Powertrain were required to meet emission limits for non-road engines agreed to in the 1999 consent judgment.
