EPA Appeals Board Rejects Challenges To Shell Air Quality Permit for Beaufort Sea

Shell Offshore Inc.'s air quality permit for planned exploration drilling in the Beaufort Sea has been cleared by the Environmental Appeals Board (In re: Shell Offshore Inc., EPA EAB, Nos. OCS 11-05, 11-06, 11-07, 3/30/12). The EAB denied requests March 30 from several environmental and Alaska native groups to review the minor-source permit granted Oct. 21 to Shell for operations of the Kulluk drill ship and associated support vessels expected to be mobilized by July in the Beaufort Sea.
