Lawmakers, Environmental Groups Fault EPA on Recreational Water Quality Criteria

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Rep. Frank Pal-lone (D-N.J.) are urging the Environmental Protection Agency to take a harder look at its draft recreational water quality criteria, particularly the rate of waterborne illnesses on which the draft criteria are based.In a letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, the lawmakers said the illness rate is "simply unacceptably high," a point also emphasized by environmental groups in comments critical of the draft criteria.
