Exemptions Specified for Proposed Listing Of Lesser Prairie Chicken as Threatened

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing a revision to its planned protections for the lesser prairie chicken to specify the exemptions that will be allowed for harming the birds. If the bird is listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, the Fish and Wildlife Service said, the agency will include a special rule under Section 4(d) of the act to withhold the risk of penalties for harm to the bird so long as certain conditions are met, according to a notice set for publication Dec. 11 in the Federal Register.
