Polish Leader Fires Environment Minister Presiding Over UN Climate Negotiations

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, angered by the failure to produce a regulation that would allow shale gas development, fired Marcin Korolec as environment minister Nov. 20, two days before the end of a United Nations climate summit over which Korolec presided. Korolec, however, continued to lead the climate summit that was due to conclude Nov. 22. His replacement as Poland's environment minister is Maciej Grabowski, a current deputy finance minister and an expert on taxes. Tusk fired Korolec six months after warning him to handle shale gas problems more efficiently or lose his job.
