UNEP, Auditing Body to Track Progress Toward Global Agreements on Environment

The U.N. Environment Program is working with a global auditing body to track government progress toward implementing international agreements related to climate change, hazardous waste, biodiversity and other environmental issues. Under a memorandum of understanding signed Sept. 9 at UN headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, UNEP and the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) agreed to oversee actions taken by governments on about 280 multilateral environmental agreements, including the Kyoto Protocol and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
