Lawrence Livermore Scientist Named to Lead Department of Energy Clean Coal Programs

The Department of Energy announced Aug. 27 the appointment of Julio Friedmann, who previously served as chief energy technologist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, to be deputy assistant secretary for clean coal. Friedmann will be responsible for management of the DOE Office of Fossil Energy's clean coal research and development programs, including its carbon sequestration program and the Clean Coal Power Initiative, as well as overseeing billions of dollars in projects financed by the Recovery Act.
