President Signs Into Law Pair of Bills To Promote Small Hydropower Projects

President Obama signed two pieces of legislation Aug. 9 to encourage the development of small hydropower projects. Both the Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act (H.R. 267) and the Bureau of Reclamation Small Conduit Hydropower Development and Rural Jobs Act (H.R. 678) received strong support from the House and Senate. H.R. 267 would ease the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's licensing requirements for small-scale hydroelectric projects that are considered to have a low impact on the environment.
