Industry Consortium to Examine Handling Of Full-Wrap Labels Covering Plastic Bottles

Thirty companies from the polyethylene terephtha-late (PET) plastics recycling industry have formed a consortium to discuss how to manage full-wrap labels, which cover entire plastics bottle, do not contain adhesives, and have hampered recycling efforts of the material. The consortium, formed by Eastman Chemical Co. and announced Jan. 16, will attempt to find the best solution for all members of the supply chain. Eastman Chemical said the consortium will discuss "floatable labels, label perforation to aid in removing labels at reclaimers' facilities, delabeling equipment availability at reclaimers' facilities and consumers removing the label from the end product prior to reclamation" among other potential solutions.
