摘要

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has said it will give Endangered Species Act protections to two species of ice-dependent seals that live off Alaska's northern coast and elsewhere in the Arctic and subarctic. In final determinations announced Dec. 21, the NOAA Fisheries Service listed as threatened three subspecies of ringed seals and two distinct population segments of bearded seals. A fourth subspecies of ringed seals-a small group that dwells in Lake Ladoga in Russia-will be listed as endangered, NOAA said.
